The Székely Károly Vocational School and Vocational Training School in Csíkszereda is the legitimate successor of the railway school established in Gyímesfelsőlok in 1948. The building complex in which the school was established was originally built as a barracks. The school started its activities in 1948, training railway apprentices. At the time of its foundation, the school in Gyimesfelsőlok was called the 'Gheorghe Gheorghiu- Dej' Railway School Centre.
In 1978, the school's assets were transferred to the Ministry of Mechanical Engineering, changing the name of the school - Vocational School Centre Gyímesfelsőlok. In 1978, the Ministry of Mechanical Engineering approved the construction of the Tractor Factory School Centre in Csíkszereda to train the workforce of the Tractor Factory in Csíkszereda, thus starting the transfer of the Gyímesfelsőlok school to Csíkszereda.
The Mechanical Engineering School No. 4 started its operation in 1983 as an independent educational institution in Csíkszereda. In 1990, the Harghita County Inspectorate of Education decided to merge the then Mechanical Engineering School No. 4 and the Light Industry School No. 3. The consolidation of the original vocational training areas of mechanics, electrical engineering and light industry into one school justified the request for a name change. From the 1994-1995 academic year onwards, the institution has been known as the Székely Károly Vocational School and Vocational Training College.
